ChoreLocks is a family app. Parents set it up, and children use it under their parent's supervision and consent. Because our whole product is about your family's daily life — chores, locations, messages — we take a simple position: your family's data belongs to your family. We don't sell it, we don't show ads, and we don't share it with anyone except the service providers required to make the app work.
ChoreLocks is designed for parents. A child's profile can only exist inside a household created and controlled by a parent, and connecting a child's device requires the household code that only the parent holds. We collect from children only what the app's family features require (the chore activity, photos, location, and messages described above), under the parent's direction and consent, consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Parents can review their child's information in the app at any time, and can delete a child's profile — which removes that child's data from our systems. We never use children's data for marketing, advertising, or profiling, and we do not allow children's data to be used to train AI models.
When a parent enables AI photo verification, the chore photo is sent to Anthropic (the AI provider) solely to answer one question — does this photo show the chore done? — and the answer comes back to your app. We do not permit our AI provider to use your photos to train models.
The Family Wallet is optional and parent-controlled. When a parent adds a card, they enter it on a secure page hosted by Stripe; Stripe stores the card and returns only its brand and last four digits to us for display. When a child redeems a reward the parent has priced and approved in advance, our server asks Stripe to charge the parent's card for the reward's face value plus a small processing fee (4%, minimum $0.99, shown on every receipt) and asks Tremendous, our gift-card provider, to issue the gift card, sharing only the child's first name so the reward can be addressed. Every purchase sends the parent an instant receipt, and a parent-set monthly cap limits total spending. Parents can replace or stop using the card at any time.
These providers act on our instructions. We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Family data is scoped to your household: it is accessible only through your household's private code, and our database rules require authentication for all access. Household codes are stored in the device's secure keychain. No system is perfectly secure, but we design so that the blast radius of any single account is one family, not everyone.
ChoreLocks' safety features (location, alerts, SOS) depend on the child's device having battery, signal, and permissions enabled — and are not a substitute for emergency services or adult supervision. See our Terms of Service.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information. Email us and we'll honor them. We treat these as standard service, not legal hurdles.
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and — for meaningful changes — tell you in the app before they take effect.
